Years ago when I worked in a mall, Sears had their marketing thing with Disney & Winnie-the-Pooh, so once in a while the Winnie guy would lumber through the mall waving at kids. I saw one mom (obviously not a reader) look at the costume (including the broken honey jar on his head) and say "Oh look, dear, it's Hunny the Bear!"

That Winnie the Pooh experience was simply awful. It was hot, and my clothes were absolutely drenched by the end of the parade--and then my ride back to my car took off without me--so I had to walk another couple of miles back lugging this silly costume and gigantic head. I think the only reason I wasn't mobbed by kids on the way back to my car was because I looked so irritated, no one dared bother me.

I've long suspected the Winnie-the-Pooh connection. I on the other hand (paw?) tend to exhibit the worst qualities of Eeyore and Piglet.

Re the IPA you mentioned: Years ago, when the internet was in its infancy, I was working at the Reference desk at Western Washington University when a student came up, very frustrated, and said "I'm trying to do research on the internet for my paper and all I can get is porn!" He was using Yahoo, I think, and I asked him what search term he used. You guessed it, Homo Erectus. I suggested a science database might be more useful.
Then there was the poor kid who didn't understand why a search for "James Bond" only brought up Fiction titles...

No, which Bill are we talking about? Obviously, you've got an inflated opinion of me--here's a pin to pop the balloon of my impressiveness. LOL.

I agree, there are some incredibly talented people out there. And Stoneth, is just plain brave--some of the people he talks to are just plain scary looking. I have a very hard time going up to someone on the street and asking to take their picture--let alone a street person. He must be a very special person to be able to make such a quick connection with them, and get their stories.
